The swap from physical to digital

The Cost

If you are creating prints, you will of course be paying for them. The average cost of prints can range from 1 – 5 dollars dependent on the quantity ordered and size. Generally while at cons, I see that most people have anywhere between 25-50 prints per Image with 5-7 different images. In order to be more rational we will estimate the cost to be 2.05 per print and est quantity stocked will be 35 prints using just 5 different images. Please view the cost below.

(35 * 5) * 2.05 = y * Taxes = Final Cost
Y = 358.75
Final Cost = 389.24

The Issues

This is the round about cost of a Cosplayer using a 3rd party to make their prints. It is possible to reduce this cost in the long run by purchasing your own printing equipment and materials, though this generally incurs a 1 time high payment with material cost and upkeep.

If the prints are not sold, the Cosplayer could still end up in the negative range as the cost of producing said prints will outweigh the profits brought in from sales. So how can blockchains help Cosplayers?

The Solution

To start, using the Cardano Blockchain to distribute your prints. The average cost for NFT creation and distribution can range from 0.25 cents to 0.55 cents, a large reduction in overall cost. Cost can also be reduced even further with just a bit of programming knowledge.

The Pros of NFTs

*You are not limited to size or quality when creating NFT Prints. Instead you can load as much content as you want; Pictures, clips, videos, music, even 3D Models. These would be individual of course
*As a NFT your prints can be made special as well, by creating rare prints with added effects or signatures. Even limited quantities. For Example, you can have 1 image that has 3 different signatures, plain black being the common, silver being uncommon and gold being rare.
*You can place royalties on your prints! If for any reason your fans sell their NFT prints there are smart contracts that automatically pull a designated percentage of the sale and sends it directly to the Cosplayer. This percentage is set by the Cosplayer themselves and can range from 0 to 100%
*You can create your own site and discord server that is Tokengated by your print collection. Meaning that the only way to access either the site or discord for exclusive content would be by owning a part of that Cosplayers prints which would allow access.
*Cosplayers are not stuck with costs. If you for any reason do not sell your prints you may be in the negatives, with NFTs this is not the case. The user/fan/buyer tends to pay the cost of minting and if you pre-mint your Prints you always have the option of burning said NFTs and retrieving 95% of the initial cost.
*Compound Interest. Yes you heard correctly, you can gain compound interest on the crypto payments made to you by delegating your crypto. This does NOT lock your crypto into a interest system, instead it lets you build off your current volume with no restrictions, so if you wish to cash it out right away you are always welcome to.

Getting Started

There are various wallets that you can use to store your crypto. The following are some examples. I personally use ETRNL wallet, which is browser based for easy access. Go to ETRNL.io and you can begin the process by creating a New Wallet. You will be prompted to create a spending password for the wallet and it will also create a seed phrase for recovery, in case your computer dies or you are traveling. When your seed phrase is provided to you, be sure to write it down somewhere safe that only you know of and that has a low likely-hood of being damaged. NEVER EVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE GIVE OUT YOUR SEED PHRASE!!! If you give someone your Seed Phrase, you are giving them full access to your wallet.

There are more safe methods of keeping your wallet phrase safe. One of which being a Ledger Drive, which can be used as a usb storage device. The only way to create transactions is to have the physical drive in hand, as well as the passwords for it. Otherwise it is useless to anyone whom may take it. Another is a physical steel wallet, these are resistant to heat and most damage, in case there is a fire in your home.
